Mariposite is a natural stone with a vitreous to pearly luster, which forms in multiple distinct layers. The stone is actually a broad term that is attributed to more than 34 types of these layers. The most common form of mariposite is called muscovite, while other varieties include anandite, fuchsite and lepidolite.
It is a cosmetic grade, deep olive green colorant, made of mica flakes coated with rutile titanium dioxide. The light absorbing particles are made to bond and form with the beautiful pigment directly. Bronze and gold sparkles can be seen in the reflection of this unique soft color.
Any of a group of hydrous potassium, aluminum silicate minerals. It is a type of phyllosilicate, exhibiting a two-dimensional sheet or layer structure. Among the principal rock-forming minerals, mariposite are found in all three major rock varieties—igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic.
