Mariposite Crystal Sphere
"Mariposite" is not the name of a formally recognized mineral. Instead, it is an informal name that has been widely used for various types of mica with a green color. Green micas are often called "mariposite," which implies that an identification has been made.is found in all of the Americas but this particular set was found in Brazil.
Mariposite is a natural stone with a vitreous to pearly luster, which forms in multiple distinct layers. Mica is actually a broad term that is attributed to more than 34 types of these layers. The most common form of mica is called muscovite, while other varieties include anandite, fuchsite and lepidolite.
It is a cosmetic grade, deep olive green colorant, made of mica flakes coated with rutile titanium dioxide. The light absorbing particles are made to bond and form with the beautiful pigment directly. Bronze and gold sparkles can be seen in the reflection of this unique soft color.
