Calcite can form by direct precipitation from waters rich in calcium. As concentrations increase or the amount of water decreases crystals of solid calcite crystals form. Organisms make structural elements or shells.

Calcite is a carbonate mineral and the most stable polymorph of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). It is a very common mineral, particularly as a component of limestone. Calcite defines hardness 3 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, based on scratch hardness comparison.

Due to the presence of other metal ions (mostly transition metal ions). Colors can range from yellow through pink, red, blue, and green to brown and even black. Green colors (often found in Mexico) can originate from the presence of malachite.

It comes from a carbonate mineral deposit that was discovered in 2019, along the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan, in the Balochistan province. The blue colored mineral is calcite, while the white-brown material is aragonite.
